Raleigh Midtown: 7 Green Apartment Amenities That Will Make Your Friends Jealous

midtown green apartments

Eco-friendly has become a key buzzword in today’s society: everyone wants to be able to say they’re living a life that’s conscious of sustainability.

One of our favorite details about the Dartmouth is that it embraces a green lifestyle, and then goes above and beyond. The entire community is outfitted with details that turn it into an eco-friendly haven. So check out the list below, and revel in the ability to smugly tell your friends that you’re saving the environment just by living in your apartment.

1. Nest Thermostat

Nest thermostats are, perhaps, one of our favorite features of The Dartmouth. Which might sound a little strange, but there’s nothing ordinary about these thermostats – they’re smart.

Nest products learn your habits, and adjust accordingly. If it knows that you like it a bit cooler every night, around 10 p.m., when you go to bed – it’ll automatically adjust. And if it knows you’re out of the apartment, on average, between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day, it’ll bump the temperature slightly – saving you some energy and power while you’re not physically in your space.

With the Energy Report sent to your phone, you can see just how much energy you’re using – and saving – every day. So go ahead, brag to your friends. Nest is sending you the data to back it up.

2. Energy Star Appliances

Continuing the technologically-advanced trend with Dartmouth apartments, all of the appliances you’ll find in your apartment are Energy Star appliances. And while you might see that distinction and not pause to consider what it means, it’s actually a big deal for your electronics to be tabbed as Energy Star efficient.

The label, in essence, means that the appliance in question is energy-efficient : it reduces greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions, contributing significant energy savings. So basically, this means you’re saving the environment every time you cook, store food, or run your dishwasher – you rockstar.

3. Bike Share Program & Storage

Bike shares are all the rage lately, and they’ve become one of our favorite modes of transportation. It’s fun to zip around town on a bike, for sure, but it’s also cutting down on the number of cars and pollutant-releasing vehicles on the road. Fun transportation and helping the environment? Win-win in our book.

The Dartmouth is taking it one step further, and making it this much easier for you to embrace biking as your go-to mode of transportation. They’ve got their own bike share program on-site, so all you need to do is be a resident to enjoy! So the next time your friends are fighting for a rental in a popular area of town, you can relax. Your bike is literally at your door.

4. Recycling Program

We know, we know. We should all be recycling. It’s one of the easiest ways to be eco-friendly, but sometimes we just lose our motivation. Or it feels like we run out of time and the next thing you know, it’s trash day, and…

The Dartmouth is making it easy for you to keep on track with recycling with their own program. They’ll do the heavy lifting – coordinating removal, making sure it goes where it needs to go. All you have to do is keep everything sorted (easy, with a little organization), and put your trash and recycling in the proper pick-up locations.

5. Smoke-Free Community

Smoking is bad for you. It’s bad for the environment. And nobody wants to walk through a cloud of second-hand smoke on their way home, or smell their neighbor’s smoke from the floor below you.

The Dartmouth is an entirely smoke-free community. This is good news for you, for your lungs, and for the air in general. No smoking means no chemicals, smoke and other pollutants being released into the environment with each exhale. That’s a pretty beautiful amenity if you ask us.

6. Midtown Farmer’s Market

The Midtown Farmer’s Market, a go-to weekly stop for our produce needs, is within walking distance of The Dartmouth. And while that’s good news for your kitchen (and menu!), it’s also good news for the environment. Did you know how eco-friendly shopping at farmer’s markets are?

First, the obvious : you’re not driving to the grocery store. That saves some fuel! But secondly, everything at the market is grown locally and sustainably. So pollutants aren’t being released on the produce’s long trip to grocery stores, the farmers are selling directly to you – making it easier for to them to grow with attention to the environment and the earth’s own schedule – and the food is grown sustainably, without the use of chemicals to keep something that may not be in season looking fresh for purchase.

Saving the world while doing your weekly grocery shopping? Yep, that’s you.

7. Proximity to shopping, dining, films – and more!

If you need to get somewhere that isn’t walking distance, we’ve already covered that the Dartmouth has an eco-friendly way to do so: bike shares! But seriously, you may not need to go much farther than walking distance to cover all your bases.

North Hills is basically the Dartmouth’s backyard, meaning that great dining, shopping, film, parks, and high-quality service vendors are only steps away from your apartment. So you don’t ever need to jump in your car, or grab an Uber, anywhere. It’s all steps away.

So, yes, there’s a lot of reasons to dangle the incredible amenities at the Dartmouth in your friends’ faces. But at the end of the day, what all of this really says is that the Dartmouth is a community that cares about living responsibly and with an eye to preserving our community and our earth for future generations. And isn’t that the kind of place we all want to live?
